There has been yet another murder in St. Vincent and the Grenadines which brings the number of homicides this year to 16. This morning, on his way to his work office, lawyer, Bertram Stapleton, was shot and killed by a masked gunman. Reports state that three gunshots were fired. He died after receiving one gunshot to his head.
Why he was killed is still as much of a mystery as who killed him. No one has yet been arrested. The other details that I've heard thus far are a bit disturbing therefore I would not mention them, but let's just say that there's no way that he could've survived. My condolences to his family and friends.
We talk about brain drain (NO pun intended) and that it is a problem that needs be solved in this country. We encourage Vincentians from all over the world to return to this land to aid in the development of this 'Land of the Blessed', but how should persons who are studying feel at this moment? If I were studying, I would not return. My reason being, fear. I would feel as though I am at a higher risk at being killed, one way or another. Today a lawyer, a brilliant man. Tomorrow??? (I hope it's that dog)
On other important matters, a young boy was attacked by a pitbull, today. The eight year old boy is simply lucky to be alive. He, like other persons who would have been attacked by these vicious dogs, will no longer have the face he once saw in the mirror. What caused the dog to attack the boy, whose face is no stranger to it, is still unknown.
There is a saying that goes "Hu dor hear mus feel", and at this moment unfortunately everyone has to deal with the consequences of the actions of a few people, but you know what they say; 'Peter pay fuh Paul. Paul pay for all'. I hope that, with this being the second attack by pitbulls in this country, that the Government would actually DO something about these so-called 'man's best friends'. These dogs are killers, and like guns we appear to welcome them with open arms to the house of deadly weapons to help murderers go down the wrong road. Earlier this year a woman's life was cut short by four of these deadly dogs. The extent of her injury was unimaginable and I still cannot believe that such a thing actually occurred. She lost her hair, and was unable to be identified, among other things.
When lives are lost or changed, where's the justice? So what if the four dogs that killed that woman are dead now? Are all the other pitbulls going to be left in SVG to kill and hurt other people??? If one dog did it and another tried, who's so sure that all the others won't? I don't think they are anything close to angels.
*With a big grin* No. These pits are to going to fear death because they heard of what the other beasts of their kind did. The other pit bulls are going to say "Hey I dor wah dead ana. Beh me dor geh hungry and kill nobody yuh hear. Time to change my life." *scoffs*
I'm waiting, like everyone else, to see what would be done about 'Death's best friends'. Are they going to be banned? Would you need a license for them? Let's wait. I just hope that by the time a law is passed that it won't be too late for another family......
May Bertram Stapleton rest in peace...........

I knew Bertram. He was a good guy.
May he rest in peace and may his death not be in vain. St Vincent must change and will change for the better.
A Vincy
no matter what, people should not kill others....it makes Vincentians wonder what road the country is heading.....we have sleep with one eye open these days and look over our sholder when we walk....people will soon have to sleep with a gun under their pillow just to protect themselves and their family....it's a dangerous world that we living in...deepest sympathy to family and friends of the late Bertram Stapleton......
I agree with fayt, the country is definitely heading down a dangerous path. for such a small country, we shouldn't be seeing so much brutal murders popping up in the news.
