Skinny!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The show of all shows, Soca Monarch, was held at Carnival City, Victoria Park, last evening, and saw a record breaking crowd turning out to see twenty of St. Vincent's top Soca artists compete for the title of Soca Monarch. The nineteen artists performed their best and most managed to move, shake and lift the crowd but only one was able to dethrone the then reighning Soca Monarch. Other competitors on the other hand could not do enough to even make the crowd want to dance. An unidentified flying object was seen by many flying on its course to the back of a male competitor. Things like these were only seen on television until this day.
The show began with fireworks, that seemed to take forever to finish, (they were pretty tho). These fireworks were followed by the introduction of the two male MCs of the night, Colin "The hitman" Graham, and some other guy ( I can't remember his name right now...like I ever) which included the listing of the rules of the night. One of those rules was something along this line....If yuh know your woman buttin yo wid another man and he dey here in the park tonight, before alyo get into anything, just leave!!........*cough* Wonder why the other MC didn't say that one......
Before the competition actually started there were a few performances by former Soca Kings. If you ever go to a show and the artist performing introduces alllllllll the members of the band, including the back up singers (individually!) before he starts to not sing, then he's drunk!!!!! A confirmation should read the following: He was later seen staggering throughout the crowd, eating BBQ.....
Now to the individual performances.
I cannot remember a lot of the performances that took place that night for more than one reasons. The performance was boring, I didn't really like the song, or I was not looking forward to seeing that person perform (cuz they weren't in my top 5).....
My top 5 artists were: Skinny Fabulous, Problem Child, Icon, Demus, and Fireman Hooper (only because he somehow manages to move the crowd and his song isn't all that bad), and guess what those were the top 5 for the finals. What else can I say but I have good taste in Soca music. I was a bit disappointed tho, and that's only because there were a few Soca artistes that either did not make it to the finals or did not participate in the Soca Monarch. For example the guy who sang the song that goes something like this: "Me go mad ana me go mad ana....Ah cah hear...ah cah hear..." That song woulda mash up the place no lie....
Anyhuz all the artists did their best, and there must be a reason why they were in the finals. However, there was only one person who could've put Fireman Hooper in his place, and that's meh boi Skinny!!!!!!!!!!!!(He sang "Meh head bad") Congrats man.....Second was Fireman Hooper with "hu e hut e hut", third was meh other boi Problem Child with "For life", fourth was Icon with "2knee" (he needs to move up the ladder man..buh then again where else would he go??), and rounding up the top 5 is Demus with his song "We going crazy"
Congrats to all the finalists once more. Skinny Fabulous automatically goes on to represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Regional Soca Monarch in Trinidad and Tobago. The prize for the winner of that show is TT$1,000,000.00 (which is half that amount in ECD$)
Before I go to get some rest for Jouvert I will leave you with the Video of the day and it's the Performance that won Skinny the Soca Monarch 2008 title. Here's "Me head bad" by Skinny Fabulous at the 2008 Vincy Soca Monarch.............weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! (found it on Youtube....teeeheeee)
